Campaigners launch art contest for Lake Oswego fire station bond measure Community campaigners announced a student art contest to support the bond measure to build a new South Shore Fire Station during last week’s Lake Oswego City Council meeting. “Our firefighters are vital to the safety and strength of our community,” said Chris Durkee, chair of the Palisades Neighborhood Association and Rebuild South Shore Bond Committee Chair, in a news release. “Through this art contest, we hope children will creatively express their appreciation for the courage, dedication, and heart our firefighters bring to their work every day. Their artwork will remind all of us why supporting the future of our firefighters matters.”
The contest supports the upcoming ballot measure to raise $20.5 million in general obligation bonds for a new fire station. The contest began on March 3 and runs until April 21. Art submissions are welcome from students in kindergarten through high school. Art submissions should show firefighters serving and protecting Lake Oswego in any way that the artists choose, following the theme “Our Firefighters, Protecting Our Community.”
Acceptable media include 2D art, such as crayons, colored pencils, paints, pastels, ink, charcoal, graphite, mixed media, or digital. Students may submit more than one piece and size is limited to 8.5” by 11” or 11” by 14”. A total of four winners will be selected, in each of the following age groups: kindergarten-second– grade, third–fifth grade, middle school and high school. Submissions are due by midnight on April 21.
